"Let's Meet for Breakfast
at Ford's"
When Tom and Stella Koravos bought Ford’s Bakery in 1954, no one would have
suspected it was the dawn of an Andover institution. Tom had worked as a cook
in other establishments for several years and was more than capable of handling
his own kitchen. Stella worked the front, greeting customers and working the
register. Over time, Tom and Stella introduced a lunch counter and eventually
phased out the bakery entirely.

For the next forty years,
Tom and Stella worked tirelessly to serve their
customers Ford’s was a gathering place for locals
on their way to work, a quick stop on the way home
after school for students, and an ideal spot to meet
and discuss local events and politics, often with
local politicians. The atmosphere was relaxed and
friendly, everyone knew everyone, but newcomers were
always welcome. Stella’s warmth and Tom’s sense of
humor made them both into Andover legends.
In 1994, after 40 years of
dedication, friendly conversation, and smiles for
everyone who walked in the door, Tom and Stella
decided to close shop and retire. A grand farewell
party was held at the Town House. Heartfelt
testimonials from loyal customers were accompanied
by certificates of gratitude for forty years of service
sent by the Massachusetts State Senate and House of
Representatives. Some loyal customers were allowed
to take mementos home with them.
While other establishments
have moved into the space Ford’s occupied, no other
business has been able to fill the place it occupies
in the hearts and minds of Andover.
Ford's Coffee Shop at the
Andover Historical Society

The fixtures and objects you see here are original. The booth, tables, and
chairs have been lovingly kept by Tom and Stella’s daughter Olivia and her
husband, Spike Sintros.
The utensils are the ones Tom used in the kitchen at
Ford’s. Much of the art on display in other rooms in the
museum during the exhibit was from Ford’s. They hung on the wall until the final days of the
coffee shop.
It is with deep gratitude
the Andover Historical Society thanks the Sintros
family and everyone else who helped to recreate
Ford’s Coffee Shop.
