Three volumes of diaries, 1866-1867; memoir, 1926; wedding
invitation, 1874 (14 items)
HISTORICAL NOTE
This collection consists of three volumes, 1866-67
of the diary of Abby Cummings Locke, 1851-1938 and other material.
Abby Locke recorded her happy life as a teenager in Andover just
after the Civil War.
The second section consists of 1868 calling card,
probably from one of her many admirers, O. H. Perry, Jr.
On October 29, 1874, she married T. Dennie
Thomson. The wedding invitation makes up the third section of
material. In 1920, as an old woman, she dictated memoirs to her
son, Philip Thomson. Also preserved is a business card of her
father, Samuel B. Locke, “Dealers in American and Scotch Pig Iron.”
Processed
by Mary F. Morgan, March 1983.
