Historical
Society Awarded Prestigious Grant
from the Institute of Museum and Library
Services
Thanks to a grant from the federal Institute of Museum
and Library Services (IMLS), the Andover
Historical Society will improve community access to its collection of
thousands of artifacts documenting the unique stories of Andover. The
three-year $137,000 Museums for America grant will fund a Project
Manager and paid interns who will transfer nearly 100 years of paper
records to the electronic database, Past Perfect. Once completed,
accessing the Society’s collection will be as easy as using a library
computer catalog. The database will include information about each
artifact, its location, a photograph, history of the artifact, and more.
“We are honored and
delighted to receive this prestigious ‘Museums for America’ grant from
IMLS,” said Historical Society Executive
Director Elaine Clements. “What a wonderful way to commemorate our 100th
anniversary and a century of service to the Andover community. Through
this project, we will increase community access to the artifacts and
stories that are unique to Andover.”
Said Norma Gammon,
chair of the Society 100th anniversary celebration, “With
news like that we will have a great anniversary year!”
